With reference to your Despatch No. 180 Com-
mercial (31848/10) of the 6th September 1910 and to
subsequent correspondence with regard to the possib-
ility of securing for Canadian goods transhipped at
Hongkong the benefit of the minimum French Tariff, I
have the honour to transmit to you herewith a copy
of a Note which I have received from the French
Minister for Foreign Affairs in reply to the repres-
entations which I addressed to his predecessor on the
subject, in accordance with the instructions contain-
ed in your above-mentioned Despatch.
Monsieur de Selves does not reply to the request
that the Government of the Republic should accord the
minimum tariff to all articles imported into France
from Hongkong or the Straits Settlements, but His
Excellency states that the French Government are
prepared
